St Mary's Hospital and NHS services are under unprecedented pressure. Here’s what we can
all do to help:
Collect loved ones from hospital as soon as they are ready to be discharged, to free up
beds for those who need them.
If you are feeling unwell speak to your local pharmacist and visit NHS 111 online for
medical advice.
Call NHS 111 first and only call 999 if it is a serious or life-threatening condition or injury
Stay away from the hospital if you have symptoms or are a contact of someone with
COVID-19.
Heatwave
The heat can affect anyone, but some people run a greater risk of serious harm. Many people
are at higher risk of the impact of heat, including people recovering from COVID and those
with long term conditions. Please keep an eye out for anyone who may be at higher risk due to
the hot weather and the impact of COVID-19.
Please share this vital health information with colleagues, friends and family:
look out for others, especially older people, young children and babies and those with
underlying health conditions.
close curtains on rooms that face the sun to keep indoor spaces cooler. It may be
cooler outdoors than indoors.
turn off lights or electrical items that are not in use to keep rooms as cool as possible.
drink plenty of fluids and avoid excess alcohol and caffeine.
never leave anyone in a closed, parked vehicle
try to keep out of the sun between 11am to 3pm.
if you have to go out in the heat, walk in the shade, apply sunscreen and wear a hat
avoid physical exertion in the hottest parts of the day.
wear light, loose fitting cotton clothes.
if you are travelling, make sure you take water with you.
take care and follow local safety advice, if you are going into the water to cool down.
Get more information on how to cope in hot weather from the NHS and on the council’s
web pages about severe weather.
