At the February meeting of the Parish Council the main topics discussed were:
POLICE REPORT
There were 2 reported crimes in Gurnard during January compared to 1 last year. New community priorities have been set.
OPEN SPACES PROJECT
The chairman attended the meeting and brought to the attention of the council that some vandalism had occurred. The pond bridge, safety rail and walkway have been ripped up and bailing twine wrapped around the orchard trees and composting areas. This incident has been reported to the Police. If anyone has any information about this, please contact the Parish Clerk.
ART ACTIVITIES FOR THE VILLAGE
The Parish Council supported the Art activities planned for this July. The Women’s Institute will provide information about how you can get involved.
TRANSPORT FOR THE VILLAGE
The clerk is still working to obtain costings of possible improvements to the community bus service.
SCHOOL CROSSING PATROL
In conjunction with Cowes Town Council, following a parking survey and a meeting with the Headteacher of Gurnard Primary School, rather than fund a School Crossing Patrol person, the two councils are supporting the introduction of Traffic Orders to improve the safety of the area to help children get safely to and from school.
DEFIBRILLATOR FOR THE VILLAGE
The Parish Council has been successful in obtaining a fully funded community AED unit which will be housed on an outside wall of Gurnard Press. The council wishes to thank Nick for his support of the project. The council will be holding a training session in the village hall for anyone who wishes to find out how to use the equipment once it is installed. Before this, the council will fund some councillors, the clerk and some members of staff at Gurnard Press to attend a training session provided by Isle of Wight Ambulance service.
